
On February 13th, 2025, NaCCA had an insightful interaction with publishers and content creators / writers on the new SHS, SHTS and STEM Curriculum at the British Council in Accra.
The engagement created a shared platform for them to be apprised with the new curriculum’s design, structure and contents of the new Secondary Education Curriculum.
Professor Yayra Dzakadzie, the Director-General of NaCCA led presentations alongside Mr. Reginald George Quartey, Director for the Curriculum Directorate; and Madam Joana Vanderpuije, Director for the Instructional Resource Directorate. The presentations provided an in-depth overview of the new curriculum, explaining its framework, subject combinations, assessment and content integration. The facilitators highlighted how the curriculum is designed to enhance competency-based learning and encourage critical thinking among learners. Additionally, the curriculum resource link was shared with publishers and all present to access the subjects curricula and other resource materials including teacher manuals and learning materials for learners.
In his closing remarks, Professor Yayra Dzakadzie expressed his appreciation to the publishers for their patience, engagement, and willingness to participate in the process. He underscored the pivotal role publishers play in curriculum development and implementation, emphasizing that they serve as a bridge between policy and classroom practice. According to him, publishers hold the significant responsibility of translating the curriculum into structured, engaging, and pedagogically sound instructional resources and textbooks that will benefit both teachers and learners across Ghana. He further stated that the success of the curriculum heavily depends on the quality of instructional materials, urging publishers to prioritize accuracy, cultural relevance, and inclusivity in their materials. He also encouraged continuous collaboration between NaCCA and the publishing industry to ensure that all educational resources align with the national vision for secondary education.
