On the 24th of September, 2021, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP) inaugurated a Nine-Member Board for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).
The Nine –member Board which is chaired by Professor Kwame Osei Kwarteng, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, UCC include the following: Mr John Mensah Anang, Acting Director-General of NaCCA, Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, National Teaching Council, Dr Samuel Awinkene Atintono, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority, Dr. Eric Yeboah from the Ghana Book Development Council and three pending members from the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and the West African Examination Council.
In his address, Dr Adutwum said Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education remained high on the government’s agenda. He urged the new board to take steps in ensuring that books with the right educational content were approved by the Council. Also, he tasked them to digitalise textbook evaluation processes to help reduce human-to-human interaction. He commended the outgone board for providing leadership in the development of the Common Core Programme (CCP) curriculum and urged the reconstituted board to further drive that agenda using the pre-tertiary curriculum to better the educational system.
