Instructional Resources Directorate (IRD)
Title
At the heart of quality education lies access to relevant, age-appropriate, and well-structured instructional materials. The Instructional Resources Directorate of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that learning and teaching resources used in Ghanaian classrooms align with the national curriculum and support effective teaching and learning for improved learning outcomes.
Our Directorate is responsible for the regulation of instructional materials intended for use in all pre-tertiary institutions. This mandate is fulfilled through the submission, assessment, approval, and continuous review of a wide range of educational materials. These materials include, but are not limited to: textbooks, supplementary readers, subject-based materials, guidance and counselling resources, e-learning content, and non-text materials such as manipulatives, puzzles, and educational games.
We work collaboratively with publishers, authors, and educational material developers to ensure that all approved materials meet high quality standards and align with national educational goals. Our efforts support effective teaching and learning across the basic and secondary education levels.
Our Core Functions
These include but not limited to;
- Assessment and approval of instructional materials.
- Development of guidelines for textbook and learning resource production.
- Monitoring the use of approved materials in schools.
- Supporting the integration of digital and inclusive learning resources.
Our Vision
To be a leading hub for quality-assured instructional resources that enhance effective curriculum delivery and lifelong learning.
Our Mission
To ensure the availability and accessibility of relevant and inclusive instructional resources that meet the educational needs of learners and teachers in Ghana.
We are committed to transforming teaching and learning experiences through resources that empower both teachers and learners to thrive in a dynamic educational landscape.
