NaCCA Engages Private Senior High School Leaders on the New Secondary Education Curriculum.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) held a virtual stakeholders’ engagement with managers of private senior high schools via Zoom on 14th February 2025. The purpose of the engagement was to provide them with insights into the new curriculum, specifically regarding subject combinations and possible career pathways for learners.

The session featured presentations led by Professor Yayra Dzakadzie, the Director-General of NaCCA. The presentations outlined the structure of the new curriculum, emphasizing its competency-based approach and its alignment with global educational trends. They also highlighted the various subject combinations available under the new curriculum and their implications for career pathways, ensuring that learners receive the necessary academic guidance.

Richard Teye, a Senior Assessment Official, provided insights on the recommended assessment structure. He highlighted that the new curriculum fosters the acquisition of skills, competencies and values so learners can better understand, analyse, evaluate, and create solutions to situations or scenarios within their natural environments. With the new assessment modalities, he highlighted that learners would achieve the desired learning outcomes, ensuring knowledge acquired from the classroom contributes to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.

Professor Yayra Dzakadzie expressed gratitude to the private senior high schools for their participation and engagement. He emphasized the crucial role private schools play in the successful implementation of the curriculum, noting that private institutions supplement government senior high schools by providing additional educational opportunities for learners. In addition, he emphasized that private schools have an obligation to assist learners by providing high-quality instructions that comply with national standards. This will guarantee that all learners, irrespective of the type of school, receive a comprehensive education that emphasizes 21st century skills and competencies.
