Education Minister Inaugurates New NaCCA Board to Lead Curriculum Reforms

The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu (MP), inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) on Wednesday, 3rd July 2025 at the Ministry of Education in Accra. The event marked a significant step towards deepening the Council’s mandate of shaping Ghana’s education system to meet evolving national and global needs.

At the ceremony, Honourable Iddrisu charged the Board, chaired by Professor Vincent Assanful, to bring renewed focus and urgency to the upcoming review of the kindergarten and primary school curricula. He stressed the need to integrate basic life skills, socio-emotional learning, and national values into early childhood education to nurture well-rounded learners from the foundational level.

The Minister expressed concern about the increasing use of mobile phones by students to cheat during examinations, describing it as a growing threat to academic integrity. He expressed optimism that a revised curriculum, rooted in patriotism, civic responsibility, and discipline, would help address this worrying trend. He called for a curriculum that not only imparts knowledge but instills a sense of responsibility, nationalism, and character.

Honourable Iddrisu reiterated the Ministry’s vision of building an education system anchored on three core principles: access, inclusiveness, and relevance. According to him, these pillars are essential in ensuring that all learners, regardless of their background, benefit meaningfully from education.

Following his swearing-in, Professor Vincent Assanful, the new Board Chair, delivered a stirring acceptance address. Drawing a vivid metaphor, he likened NaCCA’s role to that of a midwife, who supports the birth and nurturing of knowledge in children. He assured the Minister that under the stewardship of the new Board, NaCCA would maintain rigorous quality standards, particularly in curriculum design, instructional resource development, and assessment frameworks.

Professor Assanful echoed the Minister’s sentiments on emerging technologies, expressing strong support for the integration of Artificial Intelligence into teaching and learning. He stated that the Council would actively promote AI literacy in schools to ensure learners are not only consumers of knowledge but participants in a future shaped by innovation.
