
Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, PhD
Professor Yayra Dzakadzie is the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). Before his appointment as the Director General of NaCCA, he was the Deputy Director General for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the former Director for Tertiary Education of the Ministry of Education. He is an expert in educational outcome assessment, testing, measurement, evaluation, research and statistics,
Prof. Dzakadzie attended E.P. College of Education, Amedzofe, where he obtained Teacher’s Cert ‘A’. He taught for a while and proceeded to the University of Cape Coast for his first degree. He had his Bachelor’s Degree with First Class. He returned to the same University to obtain a Master of Philosophy in Measurement and Evaluation. He further acquired his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast. He graduated and won the Dean’s Award of Excellence for presenting an outstanding thesis in his area of study.
Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie taught at all levels of Education. He was a tutor at Ada College of Education, Ada-Foah, in the Greater Accra Region before leaving for the University as an Assistant Lecturer in the then Department of Psychology and Education- University of Education, Winneba. He rose through the ranks to his current rank of Associate Professor in Measurement, Evaluation, Research and Statistics. At a point, he was lecturing at three universities in Ghana. These include UCC, UEW, and Valley View University, Oyibi.
He is also an external examiner for many Doctoral Thesis and MPhil theses for some universities locally and internationally. He has presented papers in both local and international conferences and recently was adjudged the best presenter at the World Partial Least Square (PLS) conference in Romania. He has published widely in both international and local peer-reviewed journals.
Prof. Dzakadzie was the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies, UEW. He was also the Research Fellow attached to the Ministry of Education for Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP)- a World Bank Project.
He belongs to some professional bodies, including the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) and the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) in the U.S.A. and the American Educational Research Association (AERA), among others. He is also a board member for UNESCO Tier 2 Centres of Excellence in UCC and KNUST, among others.
